While larger riverboats are confined to major rivers, a barge's smaller size gives it the freedom to also sail canals and tributaries, making for a leisurely journey far from busier cities and sites. And because barges typically carry between six and twelve passengers, you'll enjoy personal service.

While on board a comfortable barge, you'll meander through breathtaking landscapes on waterways that connect Europe's great cities and quaint hamlets. From castles and palaces on the river Thames to privately owned vineyards in Burgundy, barge cruises visit sights you might otherwise miss.

Onboard chefs prepare gourmet meals daily and wine is often included. Each barge's decor reflects the region it's traveling through, from a French country theme to an English manor style. Some barges may be chartered by small groups and itineraries can be designed to fit a theme.
