Your voyage begins in the colonial city of Boston. Admire the striking view of Boston Harbor as you unpack, relax, and prepare to begin your colorful fall foliage adventure through the historic Northeast.
Day 2
Set sail this morning from Boston and transit the scenic man-made Cape Cod Canal, the widest sea-level canal in the world. Arrive this afternoon in historic New Bedford, MA, renowned as one of the 19th century’s most important whaling ports. A park ranger is your guide and narrator on an optional walk to the National Park Visitors Center. Day 3
Arrive this afternoon in Newport, RI, a port city known for its opulent and perfectly preserved Gilded Age mansions. Relive this era of decadence on an optional tour to The Breakers. Completed in 1895, this Italian Renaissance-style palazzo offers 70 rooms, 65,000 square feet of living space, and sprawling manicured gardens.
Day 4
In New London, CT, 350 years of history are displayed in charming 18th and 19th century architecture and a gorgeous waterfront park. Revisit a time gone by on an optional excursion to Mystic Seaport, a museum that honors the American maritime tradition.
Day 5
This morning enjoy striking views of the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor, before continuing up the Hudson River. In the heart of the Hudson River Valley, enjoy an optional guided tour of the West Point Military Academy* campus, including its Gothic Revival-style chapel.
Day 6
Welcome to scenic Poughkeepsie, NY! Your ship will dock just a short distance from the Walkway Over the Hudson, connecting Poughkeepsie to Highland, NY. Enjoy a leisurely stroll over this remarkable bridge and behold spectacular views of the majestic Hudson River, painted with vibrant autumn colors, from 200 feet in the air. Later, step back in history on an optional tour to historic Locust Grove, an Italian-style estate home dating to 1851, where you will savor traditional colonial High Tea and scones. Tonight visit the Hudson River Maritime Museum in Kingston, NY, to learn about the region’s seafaring history.
Day 7
Delight in an optional Hyde Park excursion to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s beloved estate home, Springwood (or Vanderbilt Mansion, pending availability). Visit the home where FDR was born, tour the grounds and nature trails, and pay your respects at the graves of both President Roosevelt and his wife, Eleanor. Day 8
The picturesque 19th century and Victorian architecture of Troy has served as a backdrop to several Hollywood films, including The Age of Innocence and Scent of a Woman. An optional walking tour introduces you to the city’s highlights.
Day 9
In the charming town of Catskill, browse unique shops on Main Street or admire the view of the Hudson from Catskill Point. Enjoy an optional tour of the Thomas Cole House, where the founder of the famed Hudson River School of Painting lived and worked. The tour continues at Olana, the elegant mansion home of Frederic Edwin Church, another Hudson River School painter.
Day 10
Your adventure concludes today in Manhattan.
